Perfumes and Aromatherapy
If you think that perfumes are just luxury items, think again. You see, there are now several recognised health benefits of scents. The study that concentrates on this is called Aromatherapy. Specifically, aromatherapy studies the effects that can be brought on by natural botanical perfume ingredients. Before determining what these effects could be though, it is best to understand first why scents can affect people in the first place.
The reason is that perfumes, whether natural or synthetic, emits molecules that enter the nose and eventually gets interpreted by the brain. Since the brain is one of the most important parts of the nervous system, any perfume you smell would certainly affect your body. As a point of fact, if you encounter a really nasty smell, your regurgitation system tends to act up, right?
Now that we have established the fact that smells do affect people’s body, let us proceed to the wonderful discoveries of aromatherapy. For one, there are smells that have been certified to help relieve stress. There are also scents that can help people in various stages of depression. If you are insomniac, aromatherapy suggests the smelling of perfumes containing bergamot and lavender to get a restful sleep. There are aromas that can calm people down as well. Various essential oils (the core of aromatherapy) are also known to help boost the immune system and hasten the healing process of wounds and sprains. Moreover, there are perfumes that can aid digestion, relieve menstrual cramps, and reduce inflammation.
As you can see, there are plenty of benefits that can be gained from smells. All of us should be thankful for that since perfumes are abundant around the world!
